Equipment Safety

In January, 2009, I heard of 2 accidents where archers have been injured by their own arrows, when they broke apart while shooting, so I rang the President of the club involved to find out more information.
I found in both cases the brand of arrow was the same, Eastern Light speeds (I could not find out the weight).
In the first case the archer had fallen over onto his arrows which were in his quiver, which may have resulted in damaging his arrows.
In the second case it was believed that the arrow may have been damaged in the target butt by having taken a hit to the knock, fracturing the arrow (which most of us have seen at the club).
So always remember to look over an arrow that may have been damaged, if it is damaged, dispose of it in the bin, don't just leave it in the field and if you see someone just put an arrow back in the quiver that you think may have been damaged, say something.
Safety is the responsibility of us all, in the field, and on the course and make sure all your archery gear is in good condition and be safe.

Ps. If you need some encouragement to check out you gear.
This is the result of an damaged arrow exploding during release. (photos were taken in the USA, approximately 2004 )

Hi i found a couple of good pictures that will go good with the other collection of photos on the Safety Article section on the club website.

It was believed that the same accident happened to the person in the photos i have attached below. What happened was that the arrow was previously damaged and upon release it snapped into 2 pieces. The first piece shot into the target and the other straight through his thumb bone then into the handle of his bow luckily it dodged the tendons and ligaments.
